Learning Support Assistant

Smart Education is recruiting a Learning Support Assistant to join a well-resourced Primary SEN school in Oldbury, supporting pupils aged 2–11 with Complex Needs, PMLD, Physical and Medical Needs, and Autism (ASC).

This is a rewarding opportunity for a Learning Support Assistant who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping them thrive in a safe and nurturing environment.

 

About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping them engage in learning, communication, sensory activities, and daily routines. The successful Learning Support Assistant will work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to help pupils build confidence, independence, and positive outcomes.

 

Job Responsibilities of a Learning Support Assistant

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support

  • Assist with learning activities, sensory work, and communication programmes

  • Support pupils with physical care, mobility, and medical routines (training provided)

  • Promote engagement, positive behaviour, and independence

  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff

Requirements for a Learning Support Assistant

  • Level 2 Teaching and Learning Support qualification or equivalent (essential)

  • Experience supporting pupils with SEN, including Complex Needs, PMLD, or ASC preferred

  • Calm, patient, reliable, and proactive approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
